Used to spend time with my Great Aunt Minnie. She had the unfortunate life of living not only longer than her generation but also the second generation so she was lonely.
Spent some time visiting her when I could.
On one such visit the blizzarfd of 1888 was brought up.
Living in Brooklyn at the time it was the worse and the best blizzard she lived through.
You ask how come?
You see, she lived in the Borough of Brooklyn and the snow was the worst she had been through. But with it came horrible winds.
People on that block had just had their coal delivery.
The snow was blown up to the second story.
Now, the wind had taken all the snow off their side of the street and left the coal clear to shovel in.
The family invited their neighbors to take their coal to heat their apartment as well until they could dig their coal out.
Those days, and even today, neighbor got along with neighbor.
It was a blizzard Minnie never forgot.
